Walter Stephens III, M.D. is the director of Christopher Ministries
Medical Missions, also known as
CMI Medical Missions.
Walter is Christopher’s uncle so being a part of Christopher
Ministries was something he willingly participated in. Since counseling
has been one of the main ministries in the CMI organization Walter’s input
and expertise in the area of pharmacology has been helpful. Walter has a
heart for missions. Especially those that are sick and are part of the
underserved populations. In 2007, he and his daughters Sara and Erin went
to Honduras, Central America and worked with the people of the Village of
Duyure. He claimed the experience was life changing and he said, “I know
I want to go back.”
In January of 2008, Walter proposed a new ministry to our board at
CMI. The board voted to add CMI Medical Missions as part of our ministry
since its purpose keeps with our mission to “Share the God of Comfort with
hurting people” by providing health care to those in need.
Walter began assembling a medical team and support staff and in
June of 2008 he headed to Honduras with medical supplies and Spanish
Bibles.
Walter wears many hats in the field of medicine. Recently, he
established his own family practice clinic called Covenant Medical Group
in Dickson, TN. Walter has been married to Laurie Pouzar for over 20
years and they have four daughters, Sara, Erin, Lauren and Leah.
